The Festive Flutes, a semi-professional flute choir, founded and directed by Marjorie Koharski, Neptune, will present a series of free musical programs at libraries in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The Festive Flutes are in their 19th year of concertizing throughout New Jersey and this is their 16th year of presenting annual music programs for young audiences and their families at the local libraries. This year’s concert, entitled “a Musical Menagerie” will feature a whimsical program of all animal tunes, including music by classical composers Bach (Sheep May Safely Graze), Tchaikovsky (Song of the Lark) and Ibert (Little White Donkey). They will also play folk tunes, novelty tunes, and pieces by Henry Mancini and Burt Bacharach.
The opening program will be performed at Neptune Public Library on Thursday, February 8 at 7:00 pm. More programs in the series are scheduled at Holmdel Public Library on Saturday, February 17 at 2:00 pm; Howell Public Library on Saturday, February 24 at 1:00 pm; Wall Public Library on Thursday, March 1 at 7:00pm; Hazlet Public Library on Saturday, March 31 at I:00 pm; Point Pleasant Beach Public Library on Tuesday, April 17 at 7:00 pm; and Manchester Public Library on Saturday, May 12 at 2:00 pm. The Festive Flutes, with C flutes, piccolo and alto flute, have a membership of adults and advanced high school students. They perform concerts year-round with programs that feature light classical music, show tunes and ‘old favorites’. They also play for weddings, receptions, holiday parties and at senior residences.
