Brick Library pays tribute to Mozart with flute concert

BRICK – The Brick Branch of the Ocean County Library presented “Mozart Magic”; a flute concert to celebrate Mozart’s 250th anniversary on Saturday.

Marjorie Koharski, Founder and Director, is a member of the Monmouth Symphony Orchestra, former faculty of the Monmouth Conservatory of Music, and is a member of the New York Flute Club and the National Flute Association. She has performed in Master Classes with James Galway, Julius Baker, and Murray Panitz. She has studied arranging with Bill Holcombe of Musicians Publications. She is a resident of Neptune, and teaches flute in her Neptune studio.

Members of the Festive Flutes include Caitlin Bogdan of Neptune, Jacqueline Calcagno. of Hazlet, Elizabeth Casper of Neptune, Stacy Daily of Hazlet, and Megan Natoli of Freehold.

The program included the “Overture Queen of the Night” from the Magic Flute, “Minuet in G”, which Mozart wrote when 6-years-old, “Non Piu Andrai” from the marriage of Figaro written in 1786, “Ah Vous Dirai-Je Maman” theme and variations which included the commonly known “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”, “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik written in 1787, “Two Adagios”, “Allergo Aperto” from flute Concerto in D major, “Andante in C”, “Quartet in F Minor” which Mozart wrote at age 10, “Alleluia” from Exultate Jubilate, “Ave Verum Corpus” and concluded with the “Overture” from The Marriage of Figaro.

The Festive Flutes features programs of light classical music, show tunes, and old favorites. The flute choir, with piccolo, C flutes, and alto flute, has performed at Churches, Libraries, The Festival of Trees, fund raisers, Christmas music in the malls, music in the parks, receptions, weddings, cable TV, and at senior homes throughout New Jersey. The flutists participated in the first annual Flute Choir Day at Drew University in Madison.
